La historia del krautrock tiene pocos renglones escritos en tierras mexicanas, por lo que la visita de Michael Rother al Polyforum Siqueiros fue prácticamente un milagro. Arts & Crafts logró traer uno de los eventos de culto que serán más recordados debido no sólo a la gran alineación que conforma Hallogallo, sino por la calidad musical en cada nota emitida de ese discreto pero infalible bajo, esa batería que desafiaba la resistencia de su intérprete y esa guitarra distorsionada que taladraba hasta la neurona más sana. Temas de Neu! fueron desarrollados tal y como hubieran sonado en los inicios de la década de los setenta.

Tanto el Polyforum Siqueiros como el público más “clavado” de México jamás imaginaron presenciar a una banda compuesta por Michael Rother (Neu!), Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth) y Aaron Mullan (Tall Firs); el nombre de la banda Hallogallo, en recuerdo a aquella excepcional canción de Neu! de 1972. Al concierto asistieron verdaderos fanáticos del kraut; todos estos afortunados fueron víctimas de temas impresionantes con canciones de más de diez minutos; las progresiones kraut incluidas en temas interpretados penetraron cada rincón de los cerebros presentes en el Poliforum.
La manera en que Michael Rother tocó, distorsionó y jugó con su guitarra fue algo único; era como si los sesos se derritieran cual lava en volcán pero al ritmo de una batería matemáticamente llevada a la sincronización perfecta. Y aunque suene trillada la frase, Michael Rother es como los buenos vinos. Hacer música desde 1969 lo ha llevado por toda clase de caminos, desde Kraftwerk, Neu!, Harmonia y como solista, de los cuales, el tomado en su segunda banda fue el más fructuoso. El legado dejado por Neu! fue presenciado por unos cuantos, el Polyforum atestiguó, quizá, el mejor concierto de kraut que México ha tenido.

- Momentum
El momento en que salieron al escenario causó gritos y conmoción, la leyenda estaba ahí, Michael Rother encabezaba el escenario del Polyforum. Todos gritaban y alababan a quien alguna vez perteneció a Neu!, lo mejor estaba por venir. Toda la carne fue echada al asador desde un principio. La batería de Steve Shelley comenzó a sonar al clásico ritmo del kraut para que “Hallogallo” sonara ante el asombro y emoción de la concurrencia que no paraba de brincar, mover la cabeza o simplemente contemplar con cara de asombro.
Extravagante
En realidad el evento entero era algo extravagante. Una banda conocida por pocos hizo que el público presente fuese gente muy “clavada”. El kraut es algo que no debe prender a muchos debido a su complejidad y extravagancia, por lo que quien haya asistido al Poliforum debió haber sido gente con gran apreciación por la música de culto.
Lamentable
Absolutamente nadie está en contra de la digitalización de sintetizadores y uso de aparatos electrónicos como laptops que facilitan la creación del tipo de música que Neu! llevó a cabo. Sin embargo, la manera en que el dúo alemán llegó al éxito fue de la forma manual, con el uso de instrumentalización más arcaica y tecnología de la época. Haber visto que Hallogallo realizara dicho show hubiera sido lo ideal para subir auténticamente en una máquina del tiempo y viajar a las épocas gloriosas del kraut.
La música que derrocharon esos prodigiosos instrumentos sonó en las aturdidas mentes de los presentes cerca de una hora y media, un tiempo no suficiente para aquellos que querían seguir en su viaje. Tal vez media hora o una horita más hubiera satisfecho a todos.

Hay increíbles artistas como Sonic Youth, Wilco, Devo, Stereolab y David Bowie, pero mucho de lo que estas y otras bandas lograron se debe a varias influencias; lo que se pudo apreciar en el Polyforum era el origen puro de muchas influencias para la actualidad. Hay bandas que no pueden pasar por desapercibidas, Neu! es una de ellas y Michael Rother y compañía nos lo dejaron muy claro.

Neu! cuenta con cuatro discos de estudio (Neu! (1972), Neu! 2 (1973), Neu! 75 (1975) y Neu! 4 (1995), aunque los tres primeros son los más importantes de todos; exactamente de ellos se extrajeron los principales temas para que Hallogallo hiciera de las suyas. También algunos temas la otra banda de Rother, Harmonia, fueron interpretados.
